Get Your Fresh Young Coconuts Here!

“Hola amigo, you want to go para-sailing?

Boat ride?

Horseback riding?

Snorkeling?

Jetski?”

No, gracias.

“No watersports today?  How about some weeeeedddd?  You wanna smoke?”

In any beach town where you find a mix of relatively wealthy Canadians and Americans, there seems to be no shortage of local entrepreneurs earning a good living off the tourist trade.  It’s no wonder why, a lot of foreigners are having the vacation of a lifetime, jumping waves for an hour on a jetski rental or flying over the bay under a giant parachute (towed by an equally giant boat.)  Oblivious to the noise pollution or the gasoline residue pumped into the bay, they jump from one paid activity to the next, sharing photos on Facebook to incite some jealousy in their friends and family back home

Just down the bay there is another beach, relatively empty except for a few local families.  There are fewer tour hawkers, the beers are a little cheaper, and the sand and surf are just as nice.  In the middle of that we found a nice place to throw down a beach towel for an afternoon

For an hour or two we ride the waves, body surfing on the incoming tide.  Bit by bit we improve, riding bigger waves for longer.

Riding the Waves!

Bigger and Faster!

Just as we get a little cocky, the ocean sends a large wave along to remind us that we won’t be winning any body surfing competitions anytime soon.  None of that is important though, as we are having a great time

Exhausted, we climb back ashore and plop down on the beach.  A local vendor sells us a fresh young coconut for 25 pesos ($2 USD.)  I know they cost 5 pesos less in town, but I personally have a shortage of coconuts and this one is here and now.  After accidentally swallowing a gallon or two of salt water, it tastes like heaven

The sun is hot and our skin and swimming suits are quickly dry.  Based on my lobster-like skin today, I should have applied more sunscreen.  As the sun sets behind the hill in the east, we head back towards our room for the night.

The End of a Perfect Day

The End of a Perfect Day

It was a day of great adventure with many photos worth sharing, as inspiration to our friends and family, because jealousy is such a toxic emotion… love is much more enjoyable. Even though I know many are secretly jealous of our love, haha ;)
